The only real advantage to running a hotter vs. colder plug (or vice versa) is that you are using the correct heat range for your driving conditions and style. This means less fouling (or in extreme cases total mechanical failure of the plug). If you are running somewhat rich and do a lot of idling or low engine loads run a hotter plug, this will help burn off the excess deposits left on the plug and keep performance high. If you do alot of upper RPM driving you can run a colder plug because the cylinder temperatures are increased thus burning off excess deposits. I hope this helps.
